artist statement

Expressing words has been difficult for me and to release them I had to find alternatives, I landed on art and through art I searched for the right words. I chose art as a career to prove to myself that I can take risks and succeed, and for others to chase their dreams. I am Futaim Younis Altaher, and I consider myself a Creative Practitioner.

I always find myself admiring either small details or major details, such as lines found in the hands, birds building nests, ants carrying food, shadows, and architecture, etc. When it comes to making art, I am heavily inspired by memories and traditional crafts. Memories can be forgotten and they are something that I cherish, and through art I try to make them last longer to protect it from getting forgotten. Traditional crafts amazes me always because back then people had limited sources but that did not limit them to create things that made their lives easier. With technology, crafts are not in demand as they used to be, which puts them at risk of being forgotten. Through art I would like to gather these crafts and make them stand as an art itself.

I express through art and each medium has its own characteristics and each one of them translates and communicates differently. I am interested in Installation, Printmaking, Ceramics, Photography, Drawing, Painting, Mix Media, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, and Furniture Design. Each one of these mediums and fields are important to me, considering each one of them speak differently. Using different mediums depends on the topic I cover through the work as the medium emphasizes the topic further. My first step to decide which medium to use is do I want a series of the work and what makes each work different from the other; is it colors, positioning, meaning, or anything of this sort. Second part is to know what feelings I want from the viewer to get, to make it clearer. Lastly, I have a quick experiment and then decide on the medium.

Thanks to art, I now see through what is around me more than I just look at them. Artworks are more than what they look like; they are issues, emotions, and passion. I am now addressing my emotions about issues in a creative way through art.
